These roses were aptly named because they are loose and abstract and were so freeing to paint! The background has a lovely gradient feel from lighter greens to turquoise and teal and some darker greens, as well. Behind all of it, the neon pink underpainting peeks through in spots, giving this one a lovely glow!
As I was pondering what to name them and remembering how freeing it felt to paint these roses, it made me think of how the Bible tells us that Jesus came to set us free from sin and death. I love how this painting can be a beautiful reminder of that!
Freedom Roses was painted as part of my Flower of the Week Series, which allows me to really study one particular flower variety -- in this case, the rose -- and paint it multiple times and in multiple ways throughout the week.
